Patient Management Software for Isolating Patients with Contagious Infections

Description:
Patient Management Software for Isolating Patients with Contagious Infections has been developed by Intermountain Healthcare to help healthcare personnel quickly assess and determine Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommended procedures for the management of patients that may have contagious infections.  Rather than patient-specific protocols used in many hospitals across the country, this software uses a disease-centered approach.  Patient management is then determined using a disease-based isolation protocol.  Comprehensive isolation protocols, including equipment management, instructions for appropriate gowns, masks, gloves and supplies are easily accessed by healthcare personnel.  A study has demonstrated that use of the isolation program resulted in more patients appropriately placed and treated, resulting in improved outcomes.  The program uses decision logic based on user input and CDC guidelines to determine the optimal protocol for each situation.  A module has been in use at Intermountain Healthcare for over 25 years.  Currently, some functions (user identification for isolation orders and removal, current patient identification, and nursing isolation reports) are dependent on interfacing with Intermountain Healthcare's admit/discharge/transfer and electronic hospital management (HELP) system; however, the software could be converted to interface with other hospital electronic medical record systems for these functions.  For more information on licensing this Patient Management Software for Isolating Patients with Contagious Infections, Please contact Ahsen Khan, 801-408-5360, ahsen.khan@imail.org.
